Ford Mustang Mach-E 2022

2021 Ford Mustang Mach-E

2022 Ford Mustang Mach-E

With the Ford Mustang Mach-E, Ford has taken a new step in the electrification of its fleet. Racy, sporty and dynamic, the Mustang Mach-E also displays a utility temperament while providing comfort and technology. In short, the Mustang Mach-E is a real step into the future that Ford has taken and has been an enormous success since its release.

Ford decided to take the name of its most iconic car, the Mustang, and apply it to its new creation. It's not by chance. The Mustang Mach-E, beyond its name, features Mustang heritage. Upfront, the flared headlights are inspired by the sports car.

One of the most distinctive elements of the sports car, the galloping horse grille, is retained on the Mach-E even though, as an electric car, it is a fully enclosed grille with no airflow function. It is painted in black or body colour to simulate a traditional grille.

Mustang style

The long and wide front hood is also remarkable. Since it doesn't hide a big combustion engine underneath, there's a compartment that serves as a second trunk, with a capacity of 81 litres.

The Mustang's features can also be seen in other parts of the car, such as the rear lights. They are shaped like the three sloping bars also found on sporty Mustang but reinterpreted and significantly larger to match the shape of this dynamic-looking SUV.

If the exterior design of the Mustang Mach-E is familiar, what we find inside is a cabin that exudes technology and space for five passengers, as well as a quality of finish and materials that is superior to what is usually found in cars in its segment.

The most prominent feature of the cabin is undoubtedly the gigantic 15.5-inch vertical screen that dominates the dashboard. This is the car's control center, managing all the car's systems and settings, so much so that apart from it, the only buttons available are those on the steering wheel.

This screen is equipped with SYNC 4 technology, which doubles the power and speed of SYNC 3 in Ford cars to date. Navigating its menus is relatively simple and intuitive, thanks to a well-organized architecture and a screen with swipe and pinch functions like your smartphone.

Beyond the gigantic center screen, another not insignificant 10.2-inch screen sits behind the steering wheel and acts as an instrument cluster. It's a horizontal screen, easy to read thanks to its clear, simple, but effective graphics.

Autonomy and power

The 2022 Mustang Mach-E is available with either a standard 70 kWh battery or an extended-range 91 kWh battery. The latter powers an electric motor mounted on the rear axle or both axles if an all-wheel-drive version is chosen. The sporty GT and GT Performance models offer extra power, up to 480 horsepower and 634 pound-feet of torque. Less powerful models provide 266 to 346 horsepower and 317 to 428 pound-feet of torque.

Range performance, however, has evolved for 2022. The big star is the rear-wheel-drive California Route 1, which goes from 491 to 505 kilometres in front-wheel-drive mode. All-wheel drive will shave off just three kilometres.

The extended-range and rear-wheel-drive Premium versions can now travel 488 kilometres instead of 483, while the all-wheel-drive versions cover a distance of 446 kilometres instead of 435. The Select and Premium versions with a regular range are not left out. For 2022, they reach 397 or 360 kilometres depending on the number of drive wheels.

One of the most distinctive features of electric cars is the use of regenerative braking systems, which slow the car's progress when you take your foot off the gas pedal as if you were braking. They do this with an intensity that can be modulated at different levels when you release your foot from the gas pedal.

On the Mustang Mach-E, this system is called the E-One Pedal and can be activated or deactivated from the center screen, regardless of the driving mode selected. When the E-One Pedal is activated, you can clearly feel the force that slows the car down when you release the throttle, so much so that the brake lights come on to alert following vehicles to avoid a rear-end collision.

A connected car

The FordPass app, which you can download to your phone, allows you to schedule charging times based on your electric rate and other cool features like unlocking and locking the car, starting it and even locating it if you can't find it. You can also find out where the thousands of available charging points are.

According to Ford, the powerful, dynamic, and 100% electric Mustang Mach-E is truly the future.
